Lithuanian Nature

ABOUT US

Discover the Wild Nature of Lithuania

Little touched by the modern world, Lithuania is famous for its nature and abundance of coniferous, deciduous and mixed forests, these characterised by many very special birds, not least Hazel Grouse, Black Grouse and occasional Capercaillies, as well as nine species of woodpeckers and an impressive variety of both raptors and owls. Alongside, to the envy of many countries in Europe, flower-rich natural meadows support many more birds from common species such as Whinchats and Skylarks to the slightly rarer Corncrakes. These meadows also come alive to an incredible diversity of butterflies in summer. Also of very special note are the very many marshes and wetlands across the country, home to Bitterns and Marsh Harriers, Cranes, both Little and Spotted Crakes and, in a few key sites, both Great Snipe and Aquatic Warblers.

With its unique geographical location on the edge of the Baltic Sea, Lithuania also lies at the heart of the Eastern Baltic Flyway, a major bird migration route stretching north to south across the country. Millions of winged visitors pass through the country every year, this including both incredible numbers of passerines along the Curonian Spit and at key sites such as Ventės Ragas Bird Observatory, as well as untold numbers of waders and wildfowl at lakes and marshes on both the coast and inland sites.

On our tours, we explore the Nemunas River Delta, a bird paradise teeming with swans, geese and rare breeding birds, we visit Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve, Lithuania’s first protected area, we also visit Biržai Forest, a site famous for its owls and the possibility of Lynx. We will also take you to enjoy the unique nature of the Curonian Spit and provide you with the opportunity to discover the amazing Ventės Ragas Bird Observatory. A perfect complement to the natural wonders of Lithuania, one of our tours also ventures across the border to eastern Poland, the legendary Bialowieza Forest and Biebrza River Valley the main attractions, both globally renowned for their superb birding possibilities.

We look forward to welcoming everyone who wants to discover the birds and wild nature of our region.
